Amid talks of political mergers ahead of the 2027 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has firmly stated that the party will not enter any coalition or merger. This resolution was shared in a communique after the Forum’s closed-door meeting in Ibadan, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

While ruling out mergers, the PDP remains open to individuals and groups who share its vision for good governance and are willing to join the party in challenging the ruling administration.

The Forum also addressed several national issues:

• Leadership Update: It recommended that the deputy national secretary act temporarily, pending a new appointment from the South East.
• Security Concerns: It expressed alarm over worsening insecurity in Borno, Katsina, Edo, and Plateau, and called for a security overhaul that empowers state governments.
• Rivers State Crisis: The governors declared their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara amidst the political turmoil and the looming threat of a state of emergency.

Looking ahead, the PDP will hold a national meeting on May 27, 2025, to set up a Zoning Committee ahead of its National Convention scheduled for August 28–30 in Kano. Governor Douye Diri will lead the Zoning Committee, while Governor Ahmadu Fintiri will chair the National Convention Committee.
