President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, pending Senate approval. This appointment follows Tinubu’s return to Abuja after a brief work visit to France.
Justice Kekere-Ekun is set to succeed Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who retired on Thursday after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Council Chambers in the State House on Friday morning.
In a statement, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, conveyed Tinubu’s congratulations to the retiring Justice Ariwoola, praising his distinguished career in public service and his contributions to the judiciary. Tinubu acknowledged Ariwoola’s leadership and efforts in enhancing Nigerian jurisprudence and the rule of law.
Justice Ariwoola, who served in various divisions of the Court of Appeal before his elevation to the Supreme Court in 2011, was appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria by former President Muhammadu Buhari on September 21, 2022.
