Tensions Rise in APC: Ndume Questions Tinubu’s Leadership, Bwala Calls Him ‘Opposition in Disguise’

Senator Ali Ndume’s sharp criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership has stirred tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC), prompting a strong response from presidential aide Daniel Bwala.

Ndume faulted Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, calling it a misstep. He urged the President to focus on security, citizens’ welfare, and the economy instead. “Let the President forget about everything and concentrate on three things – security, welfare of citizens and economy,” he said on Channels Television. He argued that dialogue, not suspension of elected officials should have been used to resolve the state’s political crisis.

In response, Bwala accused Ndume of disloyalty, warning the APC to be cautious. “Senator Ali Ndume’s spirit and soul are with the coalition; it is his body that is in APC. He is already going,” Bwala stated, adding that Ndume should follow El-Rufai’s example and formally exit the party.

The exchange comes as opposition forces led by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and El-Rufai, form a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. With PDP and LP battling internal crises, many disaffected politicians are gravitating toward the Social Democratic Party (SDP), now viewed as a rising alternative.

Ndume’s comments and growing friction within the APC reflect mounting political realignments and uncertainty as 2027 approaches.
