Police in Taraba State detained skit maker Nafiu Hassan for several days following the alleged orders of Hajia Fatima Lau, wife of Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau of Taraba North, after he highlighted poor road conditions in the district through a skit. Witnesses claim Mrs. Lau accused Hassan of “cyberstalking and character assassination” and ordered his arrest, leading to his detention and alleged mistreatment. This incident adds to accusations that Mrs. Lau has previously used security forces to target local residents. Attempts to reach Senator Lau for comment were unsuccessful.
Separately, Nigerian lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh apologized publicly after a video showed him assaulting a driver in Abuja. The case is scheduled for further court proceedings on November 8, 2024.
