The Senate has approved the 2025 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Statutory Appropriation Bill, authorizing a total expenditure of ₦1.81 trillion. The bill passed after a third reading and was based on recommendations from a joint committee led by Senator Mohammed Ibrahim, aligning with constitutional provisions.

The budget will be funded through projected revenues and is structured as follows: ₦150.35 billion for personnel costs (8.29%), ₦352.03 billion for overheads (19.41%), and ₦1.31 trillion for capital projects (72.31%). Total recurrent spending amounts to ₦502.38 billion, while the capital component takes the largest share.

The budget aims to boost infrastructure, enhance public services, and meet the growing demands of Abuja and surrounding communities. It was developed in consultation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and senior officials of the FCT Administration.

During budget defence sessions, Wike raised concerns about rising insecurity and strained healthcare systems in the FCT. He called for a strategic, national-level response, especially considering Abuja’s status as the country’s administrative and diplomatic center. He also highlighted recent investments in advanced diagnostic medical equipment as part of efforts to strengthen public healthcare delivery in the capital.
