The Senate announced plans to suspend plenary for two weeks starting January 14, 2025, to focus on reviewing the proposed ₦49.7 trillion 2025 budget. This timeline will allow Appropriation sub-committees from both chambers to conduct detailed considerations.
Senator Solomon Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, stated that January 31 is tentatively set for presenting and passing the Appropriation Committee’s report in both chambers. The review process includes input sessions with stakeholders, including heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Budget defence sessions are scheduled to begin immediately, with committees expected to submit reports between January 15 and 18. The appropriation bill was submitted to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024, by President Bola Tinubu and has already passed its second reading.
Adeola assured Nigerians that despite the tight timeline, thorough consideration of the budget will be ensured.
