Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Bala, conducted an inspection of local government secretariats damaged by political violence on Monday. His visits to Obio/Akpor, Emohua, Isiokpo, and Eleme followed violent clashes that resulted in arson and gunfire across four local government areas. The violence erupted after the newly elected chairmen were sworn in, leading to the burning of several council buildings.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara responded by setting up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the incidents, vowing that the perpetrators would be identified and punished. The governor emphasized that the attacks, unlike previous ones, will not go unaddressed, as his administration collaborates with security agencies to ensure justice. The commission, chaired by Hon. Justice I.R. Minakiri, was sworn in on Tuesday to begin the inquiry.
