The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially recognized Hon. Sunday Ude-Okoye as its national secretary following a Court of Appeal ruling. However, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled former secretary, has challenged the decision, filing an appeal for a stay of execution and taking the case to the Supreme Court.
National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba stated the party’s position was guided by legal advice and a commitment to the rule of law. He noted that the Court of Appeal’s judgment is binding until overturned by the Supreme Court.
Anyanwu, however, criticized Ologunagba, accusing him of making political statements without proper consultation. He argued that the party was yet to officially receive the court judgment, given its current recess until January 13, 2025. Anyanwu expressed confidence in a favorable outcome from the Supreme Court.
Ologunagba emphasized the party’s obligation to comply with the Court of Appeal’s directive, recognizing Ude-Okoye as the legitimate national secretary pending further legal developments.
