The Court of Appeal in Abuja has removed Olusola Ebiseni as the Labour Party’s candidate in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election. The decision, delivered by Justice Adebukola Banjoko and supported by a unanimous panel, was based on an appeal from the Labour Party itself, which challenged Ebiseni’s candidacy.
The judgment overturned an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Ebiseni and his running mate, Ezekiel Awude, as Labour Party candidates. That initial decision had stemmed from a second primary election organized by the Labour Party, where Ebiseni had reportedly paid substantial fees and compensated another candidate to secure his nomination.
Reacting to the Appeal Court’s decision, Deputy Governorship Candidate Dame Olabisi Adu Okunniyi praised the ruling as a “victory for the rule of law” and urged Ondo residents to vote for the Labour Party. She affirmed that the party’s vision for governance will be “inclusive, transparent, and consultative,” aimed at fostering prosperity for the people of Ondo.
