Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approached the Federal Government to help resolve the ongoing dispute with Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. over the contentious Ogun Free Trade Zone (FTZ). On Thursday, Abiodun engaged top federal officials in Abuja to address the issue, which recently led to the seizure of presidential jets in Europe by the Chinese company. This development coincides with a public clash between former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and Professor Pat Utomi over a revoked property deal. Utomi accused Amosun of canceling a contract that caused him financial losses, while Amosun defended his actions, claiming Utomi’s demands were unreasonable and based on an “entitlement mentality.” Utomi shared on social media that he had suffered financially after Amosun allegedly canceled a contract for leased land in Lagos, which Utomi had secured under the previous governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. In response, Amosun dismissed Utomi’s claims, stating that Utomi had invested no more than N50 million in the project and had attempted to pressure him into paying N200 million in compensation. Amosun further argued that the contract cancellation with Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. was justified and in accordance with the law, emphasizing the need for equal application of the law to all Nigerians, regardless of their status. He also criticized Utomi for trying to link his situation to the dispute with the Chinese firm, calling it “disgraceful.” Amosun reiterated that he stands by the decisions he made during his tenure, stating that his actions were in the best interest of Ogun State and that leaders should be held accountable for their decisions.
