In an era where youth engagement is crucial for national development, empowering young people has become more important than ever. Recognising this, the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) has emerged as a beacon of hope, empowering young Nigerians to shape our country’s future.
Launched in 2021, the NYFF is a visionary five-year initiative aimed at fostering activism and nurturing youth leadership. Funded by Leap Africa, Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, and Luminate Group, the NYFF provides technical and financial support to youth-led movements across Nigeria.
The NYFF’s objectives are threefold: equipping young people to engage in policy development, empowering youth activists and organisations through capacity building and small grants, and fostering collaboration and learning through online and media platforms.
To achieve these goals, the NYFF has devised three key programs: Youth Leadership Development, Online and Media Engagement, and National Visioning.
Youth Leadership Development Programme, titled “Young Hearts, Hands, and Voices for Social Change.” This program, run by LEAP Africa, is all about giving us the tools to drive social change and contribute to building our nation
Complementing the Youth Leadership Development Programme is the Online and Media Engagement initiative, preached with #TheNigeriaWeWantDialogue. They are running debate competitions and campus tours, and offering grants for the best ideas. Plus, they host monthly online discussions with experts and policymakers.
The third pillar of the NYFF’s strategy is the National Visioning program, also known as The Imaginative Futures Working Group, which is perhaps the most ambitious of the NYFF’s initiatives. Here we can help shape policies, imagine sitting at the table with government officials and having your say. That is what this is about!
Understanding the financial constraints often faced by youth activists and organisations, the NYFF also offers grants to bridge the funding gap. So if you have a brilliant idea but need some cash to make it happen, NYFF might have your back.
