Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has declared that the North will make a decisive move within the next six months regarding who to support in the 2027 presidential elections. Speaking in a Hausa-language video interview alongside ex-NHIS boss Usman Yusuf, Baba-Ahmed emphasized that no candidate can win the presidency without the backing of the North.
He criticized the current state of the country and cautioned Northerners to reject divisive and manipulative politicians. “We’ve cried enough under successive governments. We need leadership that understands and addresses our challenges,” he said.
Highlighting the region’s suffering during the Boko Haram insurgency, Baba-Ahmed underscored the importance of unity and warned against further marginalization. “If they plan to rig the election, they should think twice. The North is watching and will not remain silent forever,” he warned.
He also urged the North to move past identity politics and vote based on competence and integrity. “We are done with voting based on religion or ethnicity. We want a leader who can truly solve our problems,” he added.
