Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has mandated that all commercial drivers in Abuja obtain security clearance from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and Department of State Services (DSS) by January 2025 to continue operations. This directive aims to curb kidnapping and ‘one-chance’ robbery incidents in the city. Drivers who fail to secure clearance and use approved Abuja colors on their vehicles will be prohibited from operating. “We’re taking steps to ensure people feel secure using commercial transport,” Wike stated.
