Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has dismissed allegations that the Assembly spent ₦17 billion on constructing a gate, calling the claim “spurious and laughable.” The accusations, made by a group known as the Lagos State Anti-Corruption Coalition, also included a ₦200 million expenditure on a Thanksgiving event, which Obasa denied, stating the event took place modestly last Friday.
Obasa suggested the allegations were politically motivated, with some individuals already strategizing for the 2027 elections. He also refuted claims of attending the National Assembly’s confirmation of EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede, urging the public to verify such baseless accusations through CCTV footage or media coverage.
The Assembly’s spokesperson, Stephen Ogundipe, reiterated that the House operates on principles of transparency and does not handle constituency or intervention funds. Instead, lawmakers compile requests from annual stakeholder meetings for inclusion in the executive arm’s budget planning. Ogundipe dismissed the allegations as politically driven misinformation.
