President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), following her Senate confirmation on September 25, 2024. The ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja on Monday, where Kekere-Ekun officially assumed office, succeeding Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who retired in August 2024.
Witnessing the event were several distinguished figures, including former Chief Justices Aloma Mukhtar, Mahmud Mohammed, Walter Onnoghen, and the retiring Ariwoola, as well as Supreme Court justices and members of Kekere-Ekun’s family.
This marks Kekere-Ekun’s second oath-taking in five weeks, as she had previously been sworn in as Acting CJN on August 23, 2024, prior to her Senate confirmation.
