Monday Okpebholo has been sworn in as the new governor of Edo State, officially concluding Godwin Obaseki’s eight-year administration. The inauguration ceremony took place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, attended by notable figures such as Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo and former governor Adams Oshiomhole. Okpebholo, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured his position after winning the September election, defeating PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.

Okpebholo’s victory marks the return of Edo to APC control, with political analysts attributing the shift to internal divides within the PDP and the influence of key political figures. The PDP, however, has contested the outcome, alleging that the election results did not reflect the will of Edo’s people and planning to challenge the decision in court.
