JUST IN: Appeal Court Affirms Okpebholo’s Election as Edo Governor, Ighodalo Heads to Supreme Court

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, dismissing the appeal

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, dismissing the appeal filed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo.

A three-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Danjuma ruled that the appeal lacked merit and affirmed the earlier decision of the election tribunal, which had dismissed Ighodalo’s petition in April for insufficient evidence and failure to prove electoral irregularities.

Okpebholo won the September 21, 2024 election with 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo’s 247,274. He was sworn in on November 12, 2024.

Ighodalo has rejected the appeal court’s ruling and announced plans to take the case to the Supreme Court.
