Ahead of the local government elections in Jigawa State, the police have imposed a ban on vehicular movement from 12 a.m. on Friday, October 4, to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024. According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, only essential service vehicles, such as ambulances, election officials, and observers, are exempt.

The police also warned against political thuggery and the use of weapons during the elections, promising to arrest and prosecute violators. Security personnel have been instructed to ensure a peaceful process while maintaining professionalism.

In addition, Benue State will enforce similar restrictions for its local government elections. Governor Hyacinth Alia has declared October 4 a work-free day to allow citizens to prepare.
