The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will begin distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to newly registered voters in Edo State starting Thursday, in preparation for the upcoming governorship election.
The distribution will take place at 192 Wards across the state from August 22 to August 26, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm daily, including weekends. Following this initial phase, voters will be able to collect their PVCs at INEC’s local government offices from August 28 to September 8, 2024. The Edo governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.
A total of 184,438 voters were registered during the recent Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, which includes 119,206 new registrations, 8,847 inter-state transfers, and 46,171 intra-state transfers. INEC has confirmed that all newly printed PVCs have been delivered to its office in Benin City and are ready for collection.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stressed that PVCs must be collected in person and will not be distributed by proxy to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. He urged registered voters to collect their cards and participate in the election. Additionally, INEC has uploaded detailed information about the collection centers and a register of the newly registered voters on its website and social media platforms to make the process of identifying and collecting the cards easier.
