Segun Sowunmi, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s campaign, has advised Peter Obi to return to the PDP ahead of the 2027 presidential election to improve his chances.

Speaking on Seun Okinbaloye’s “Mic On” podcast, Sowunmi suggested that Obi, who performed strongly in the 2023 election without significant party backing, could be even more effective with the PDP’s nationwide structure behind him.

“If I were Peter Obi, I’d return to the PDP and pursue the presidential ticket,” he said. Sowunmi also emphasized that the party has roots in the South-East through the late Alex Ekwueme, questioning why the region and other southern leaders couldn’t rally behind Obi if he rejoined.

He argued that with proper support, Obi could secure key regions including the South-East, South-South, Christian North, and North Central.

However, Sowunmi clarified that his comments were purely personal opinions and not tied to any formal discussions between Obi and the PDP.
