Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum warns that Boko Haram/ISWAP militants now control all but one community in Marte Local Government Area. During a weekend visit, he appealed to the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army for urgent, decisive measures to prevent the fall of the remaining town and avert a complete takeover of the LGA.
Zulum reported that recent attacks forced about 20,000 residents to flee to Dikwa, risking further radicalization of displaced youths. With more than 300 towns and villages in the LGA already overrun, he stressed the strategic importance of defending the last stronghold.
Thanks to joint efforts by soldiers and civilian volunteers, some residents have begun returning, and the governor spent a night in Marte to bolster confidence. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fully support security forces in restoring and maintaining peace across Borno State.
