Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, called on security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election in the Edo State governorship race. Speaking at the final rally in Benin City for Labour Party candidate Olumide Akpata, Obi emphasized that Edo could lead the way in correcting poor leadership choices, stating, “Nigerians are suffering today because of wrong leadership choices, and this must start changing with Edo.”
Obi pledged that if elected, Akpata would not wait for the Federal Government to fix federal roads in Edo but would act swiftly on such issues. He urged Edo citizens to support Akpata and his running mate, Kadiri Asamah, at the polls on September 21.
Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, also encouraged supporters to vote in large numbers and defend their votes, emphasizing that power belongs to the people.
