The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 local government chairmanship positions and 225 councilorship seats in Kebbi State, as confirmed by the State Independent Electoral Commission. Commission Chairman Aliyu Mera announced the results over the weekend at the commission’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi. Seventeen political parties participated in the election, though the main opposition party, the PDP, withdrew from the race. The commission has issued certificates of return to all the winners, solidifying their victories. Kebbi State, located in North-West Nigeria, is currently governed by APC’s Governor Nasir Idris. The election is part of a wave of local government polls in about 20 states following the Supreme Court’s ruling granting financial autonomy to the local governments in July.
