The Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Richard Tombowua, has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of all chairmanship and councillorship positions in Saturday’s local government elections. Announcing the results, Tombowua stated that the APC secured all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship seats across the state, noting that the election was conducted smoothly without any issues.
“The election held across the state went off without a hitch; it was free and fair,” he said.
Five political parties, including the APC, PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and APGA, participated in the election. Ibrahim Idoko, the state chairman of the Labour Party and the Inter-Party Advisory Council, praised the commission for its commitment to a smooth election and acknowledged Governor Hyacinth Alia for ensuring a level playing field for all parties. He noted that his party would review the results and issue a formal response later.
