Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election slated for November 8, 2025.

The result of the keenly watched primary election was officially declared by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, on Sunday. Ukachukwu secured a decisive victory, polling 1,455 votes to defeat his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, who garnered 67 votes. Other contenders included Johnbosco Onunkwo with 26 votes and Edozie Madu with eight votes. A total of 26 votes were declared invalid.

In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for fostering a transparent and peaceful primary process. He also commended the APC National Working Committee, Governor Otu and his team, his co-contenders, and the delegates for their roles in what he described as a credible and unifying exercise.

“I call on my fellow contestants to unite and rally around my candidacy. The most important thing now is to deliver Anambra to the APC,” he said. “I have a longstanding influence in Anambra politics. I have been instrumental to the emergence of successive governors in Anambra over the years. I have played the role of a godfather, but now, I am ready to father myself.”

Ukachukwu pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him, assuring both party faithful and the people of Anambra of his commitment to transformative leadership if elected.

His emergence sets the stage for a high-stakes electoral contest against the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and George Moghalu of the Labour Party.
