In a move to support #EndBadGovernance protesters, the Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Sani Uba, has extended a warm hand of goodwill by gifting each released protester a mobile phone and N100,000. This gesture follows their recent freedom granted by a Federal High Court in Abuja, which dismissed treason charges against them—a case that stirred public outrage, especially as it involved minors.
The protesters, including underage individuals, were detained for three months following their involvement in nationwide demonstrations. Their release was ordered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who struck out the charges after the Attorney General withdrew the case amidst intense criticism.
Upon their release, Kaduna and Kano State officials took charge of the minors, who had endured challenging conditions while in custody. Governor Uba’s administration pledged ongoing support, including skill training, employment opportunities, and educational assistance. Religious leaders also encouraged the youth to embrace their faith and avoid harmful influences.
In a statement, Abdullahi Yunus, the governor’s media adviser, confirmed that each detainee received N100,000 and a phone, as their personal belongings had been lost during detention. Governor Uba aims to help these individuals rebuild their lives, with promises of start-up support and a commitment to a positive future.
