The Labour Party has indefinitely suspended six top members, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senators Ireti Kingibe and Darlington Nwokocha, citing anti-party activities. Others affected are Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi.
According to a statement by National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the suspension follows the recommendations of a disciplinary committee set up on May 2, 2025. The party’s National Executive Council reviewed and approved the committee’s findings during a meeting on May 7.
All six members are now barred from participating in any party affairs. The party clarified that Nenadi Usman, mentioned in some reports, is not a registered Labour Party member but a supporter of its 2023 presidential candidate, and thus not subject to internal sanctions. It also accused her of lacking moral standing due to past corruption allegations.
Reaffirming its political direction, the Labour Party stated it would not enter any alliances or mergers ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing its intent to contest as an independent party.
