Former Labour Party presidential spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo says the opposition’s only hope of defeating President Bola Tinubu and the APC in 2027 is through a strong coalition. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Okonkwo expressed confidence that a coalition will form, although he could not confirm whether it would involve Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, or others.
“Without a coalition, Tinubu will have an easy walk back to power,” Okonkwo warned, adding that no single candidate can challenge the incumbent successfully. He compared the situation to the 2015 election, where opposition elites united to defeat then-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Addressing the wave of defections to the APC, Okonkwo criticized politicians who believe the ruling party will manipulate election outcomes in their favor, calling it “absurd” to seek refuge in a “sinking house.”
Although he recently resigned from the Labour Party, Okonkwo clarified that he has not joined another party and is carefully considering his next political move, emphasizing again that building a united opposition is critical for 2027.
