Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has firmly stated that he will not support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar if he contests the 2027 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I worked against Atiku in 2023, and I will do it again if he runs. It’s time we learn from our mistakes,” Fayose said during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Fayose blamed the PDP’s internal crisis on its decision to zone power back to the North after President Buhari’s eight-year tenure, arguing that the presidency should have rotated to the South. He stressed that while individuals like Nyesom Wike or Peter Obi may not be universally liked, there should be a mutual, gentleman’s agreement on power rotation to ensure fairness.
He called for accountability within the PDP, warning that failure to uphold zoning principles would breed rebellion and discontent. “A party that ignores equity will end up producing anger and disorder,” he said.
Looking ahead, Fayose added that after President Tinubu’s administration, should he get a second term, the presidency must return to the South, and he would advocate strongly for that shift.
