Former APC presidential aspirant and pastor, Tunde Bakare, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for undermining the separation of powers in Nigeria. In a recent state of the nation address, Bakare accused the Tinubu administration of turning the National Assembly into a mere extension of the executive, warning that this power imbalance threatens Nigeria’s democracy.

Speaking from the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Bakare urged the President to stop acting with unchecked authority. He condemned the weakening of legislative oversight, citing recent National Assembly actions, like approving a state of emergency in Rivers and suspending Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as signs of growing executive control.

“Mr. President, Nigeria is too delicate for this kind of politics,” Bakare warned, adding, “No man is wise enough nor good enough to be trusted with unlimited power.”

He described the current National Assembly as the weakest in Nigeria’s recent history and likened it to a rubber stamp body serving at the President’s discretion.
