The Federal Capital Territory High Court has remanded former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello at Kuje Correctional Centre after rejecting his bail application, which was filed prematurely. Bello, alongside two others, faces charges of laundering ₦110 billion brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Maryann Anenih ruled that the bail request was invalid as it was filed before Bello’s arraignment on November 27. The second defendant, Umar Oricha, was granted bail under stringent conditions, including a ₦300 million bond and property-backed sureties. The trial continues on January 29, February 25, and February 27, 2025.
