Are Senate Seats Becoming Family Inheritances? Ndume Backs Ubah’s Widow for Anambra South

Senator Ali Ndume has urged his colleagues in the Senate to support Uchenna Ubah, widow of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, as his successor for the Anambra South senatorial seat.

Senator Ali Ndume has urged his colleagues in the Senate to support Uchenna Ubah, widow of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, as his successor for the Anambra South senatorial seat. Speaking during a valedictory session honoring Senator Ubah, who died in July at 52, Ndume stressed the importance of preserving the late senator’s legacy.

“This has happened before,” Ndume stated, citing examples like Margery Okadigbo and Oluremi Tinubu, who carried on family political legacies.

While his appeal seeks continuity and honor for Anambra South, critics may question if this trend risks turning elective offices into hereditary roles, raising debates about constitutional requirements and democratic processes.
