In his final act as Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki granted clemency to ten inmates with less than a year remaining on their sentences, marking a gesture of mercy on his last day in office. The pardon, based on recommendations from the Edo State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, came following a request from the Benin Correctional Service.

Obaseki officially handed over power to Monday Okpebholo, who will be inaugurated today as Edo State’s new governor. The ceremony is expected to draw party leaders, governors, and national legislators, though Obaseki, reportedly not invited to the event, may not attend.
