Appointed in June 2023, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja served the nation with dedication but passed away recently after a prolonged illness.

Ministers of Defence Mohammed Badaru and Bello Matawalle also paid their respects, calling his death a major loss not just for the military but for the nation. Known for his commitment to national security, Lagbaja contributed significantly to internal security operations, displaying professionalism and camaraderie in his role.
As the country enters this period of mourning, the Ministry of Defence emphasized his impact, stating that he will be “greatly missed by his family, the military, and the nation.” Flags flying at half-mast symbolize the nation’s collective respect and remembrance of his contributions.
