House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh issued a public apology after assaulting a Bolt driver who delivered a package to his residence in Maitama, Abuja. A viral video showed Ikwechegh repeatedly slapping and threatening the driver, Abuwatseya, after the driver asked him to collect the package personally. Acknowledging that his behavior fell below public standards, Ikwechegh said, “As a public servant, I recognize the trust placed in me… and for that, I am truly sorry.”
In his statement, Ikwechegh expressed remorse for the embarrassment caused to Abuwatseya, his constituents, and the public. He assured full cooperation with the Nigerian Police investigation and praised their commitment to upholding the law. He also acknowledged the quick condemnation by his party and pledged to seek professional counseling and engage in community service to promote empathy and respect.
