The Senate has formed a six-member ad-hoc committee to investigate accusations against Senator Ashiru Oyelola of Kwara South, following a raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on his Ilorin home, where illicit drugs were reportedly found. These allegations came after Senator Ashiru criticized the NDLEA during a Senate debate on establishing the National Institute for Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation, calling it “the most corrupt and compromised agency.”
Senator Ashiru, citing his rights as a senator, described the NDLEA’s actions as a personal attack and an attempt to silence free debate in the Senate. Senate President expressed concerns over the timing of the allegations but refrained from making any judgments. The ad-hoc committee will provide its findings in one week.
