Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, disclosed that his total monthly earnings as a senator amount to N14 million. Speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, he addressed misconceptions about lawmakers’ affluence, explaining that the N14 million covers all expenses, including salaries and overhead costs.
“I earn N14 million for everything in a month, and it’s not enough to cover expenses like fuel and maintaining constituency offices,” Kalu said.
He also clarified that contrary to public belief, lawmakers are not provided personal official vehicles—only committee vehicles are available.
Regarding the economic challenges in Nigeria, Kalu attributed the situation to the lingering effects of COVID-19, stating that President Bola Tinubu is well aware of the hardships and is actively working to stabilize the economy. “The president knows Nigerians are suffering. He’s taking steps to address the issues,” Kalu added.
