The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has announced plans to conduct local government elections on Saturday, November 2, 2024, across the state’s 13 local government areas. The elections will cover both chairmanship and councillorship positions. NASIEC Chairman Ayuba Wandai-Usman made this known during a press briefing in Lafia, urging citizens to turn out in large numbers and participate peacefully.
Wandai-Usman emphasized the importance of collaboration with the media to strengthen the democratic process and outlined the election timeline, which includes party primaries starting on October 11 and campaign activities beginning on October 18. He also stressed the need for law and order throughout the election period. The current term of elected local government officials is set to end, as the last elections were held in October 2021.
