In his Independence Day address, President Bola Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria must reform its political and economic systems to avoid collapse. He highlighted the challenges faced by the nation, including economic instability and security concerns, noting that his administration has taken steps to address these issues since taking office 16 months ago.
“We found ourselves at a crossroads: reform for progress or continue business as usual and collapse,” Tinubu said, outlining his administration’s efforts to attract over $30 billion in foreign investments and tackle debt issues.
Tinubu also praised state governors for supporting agricultural production, announced forthcoming reforms in the petroleum sector, and committed to addressing the high cost of living. He further emphasized the government’s commitment to local government autonomy and the importance of learning from past mistakes to build a prosperous future.
The President also detailed security improvements, stating that over 300 insurgent leaders had been eliminated, and assured Nigerians of ongoing efforts to alleviate hardship. He concluded by announcing a National Youth Conference aimed at empowering the next generation and addressing their challenges.
