The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns ahead of the September 21 Edo State governorship election, refusing to sign the peace accord aimed at ensuring a peaceful election. Of the 17 political parties contesting, only the PDP declined to sign, citing the arrest of 10 of its members by the police in Abuja. The PDP’s state chairman, Anthony Aziegbemi, expressed dissatisfaction with the arrests, claiming it created an unfair playing field.

INEC has urged the PDP to reconsider, emphasizing that the accord is crucial for maintaining peace. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) signed the agreement but echoed security concerns and criticized the handling of violence against its members. The PDP continues to demand the redeployment of key security and electoral officials, stressing the need for a credible, free, and fair election.
