Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has submitted a request to the State House of Assembly for a ₦99.2 billion supplementary budget for the 2024 fiscal year. During a plenary session led by Speaker Ismail Falgore, Governor Yusuf emphasized the urgency of this budget to address critical needs such as paying the new minimum wage and implementing key infrastructure projects aimed at improving the welfare of Kano’s citizens.

Citing Sections 122 (A) and (B) of the 1999 Constitution, Yusuf stated, “The supplementary budget is necessary to address critical needs, including the payment of the new minimum wage and the execution of vital infrastructure projects. These investments are aimed at improving the quality of life for our people and advancing the development of our state.”

The proposed budget includes ₦33.76 billion for personnel costs, ₦34.49 billion for overhead expenses, and ₦30.97 billion for capital expenditure. If approved, the total budget for Kano State in 2024 will increase to ₦536.56 billion.

Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, explained that the supplementary budget is focused on infrastructural development, human capital enhancement, and significant improvements in the health and education sectors.

In the same session, a motion was introduced by Yusuf Aliyu, representing Nassarawa Constituency, urging the state government to rehabilitate the Gwagwarwa Mini Stadium, which has become a hotspot for criminal activities due to its dilapidated state. The House of Assembly is expected to deliberate on both the supplementary budget and the stadium rehabilitation in the coming days.
