EDO 2024: INEC: ‘No PVC Collection by Proxy’ as Distribution Moves to LGA Offices

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will not release Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to third parties. Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will not release Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to third parties. Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, emphasized that PVCs must be collected in person by the registered voters.

INEC reported the successful distribution of 125,928 PVCs, representing 68.3% of the 184,438 new cards issued during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Edo State. This marks the highest collection rate since the CVR was introduced ahead of off-cycle governorship elections in 2015.

The commission credited this achievement to its strategic packaging and direct communication with voters. INEC is now shifting the collection process to its 18 Local Government Area (LGA) offices in Edo State, where voters can collect their PVCs from August 28 to September 8, 2024. Voters are urged to collect their PVCs in person, as proxy collection is not permitted.

Olumekun reiterated, “No cards will be collected by proxy. We appeal to the remaining voters to pick up their PVCs in person from our LGA offices.”
